How to play the Halloween word search
Find each Halloween word from the list hidden in the grid, then drag across it, or tap its first and last letter. Found words are marked and crossed off. New puzzle makes another one with a different mix of words.
Which level?
- Easy: a 10 × 10 grid with 8 words across and down. Good for young children just learning to read, perhaps with a grown-up helping.
- Medium: 12 words that can also run diagonally, for older children.
- Hard: 16 words in a 15 × 15 grid, running in every direction and backwards, for teenagers and adults.
The Halloween words
Every puzzle picks from about thirty Halloween words: the classics such as pumpkin, ghost, witch, bat and cat; creatures like the vampire, mummy, werewolf, zombie, goblin and skeleton; and the rest of the night, from costume, mask, candy, trick and treat to cauldron, potion, broomstick, cobweb, lantern and graveyard. Nothing gory: the words suit a classroom.
For Halloween parties and classrooms
- Print it with the Print button. Print with answers opens the same puzzle on the printable word search page, which adds the answer key and can print several different Halloween puzzles at once.
- Make it a race: give everyone the same puzzle with Copy link, and see who finishes first.
- Add your own words, such as the names of your class’s costumes, with the word search maker.
