How to use the online mirror
- Press Start camera and allow the camera when the browser asks.
- Choose Mirror to see yourself as in a real mirror, or True view to see yourself as others do.
- Zoom in for detail, and turn on the light if your face is in shadow.
Freeze holds the picture so you can look at it without holding still, and Take a photo saves what you see to your downloads.
Mirror or true view?
A mirror swaps left and right, so the face you know from mirrors is flipped compared with the face everyone else sees. True view undoes the swap. It often looks slightly odd at first, because faces are rarely perfectly symmetrical: a parting, a mole or a smile that leans to one side all move to the other side. Video calls show others your true view.
Using the light
Soft and Bright surround the picture with a warm or pure white border, turning the screen into a lamp that lights your face from the front. It works best in full screen with the screen brightness turned up, in a room that is not too bright already. For make-up or a quick check before a call, facing a window works well too. For a light on its own, use the white screen.
About zoom
Zoom here is digital: it enlarges the middle of the picture rather than bringing the camera closer, so at 2× it is less sharp. For a closer look, moving nearer the camera gives a sharper picture than zooming.
Is it private?
Yes. The picture goes from the camera to this page and nowhere else: nothing is recorded, stored or uploaded. Press Stop camera, or close the page, to turn the camera off.
To check the camera itself, with its resolution and frame rate, use the camera test.
